Her boyfriend, Kevin Long, a tall marketing executive, blushes and taps his sequined bow tie, which perfectly matches Hartford's gold dress. "These are meant to celebrate San Francisco," she adds. Like miniature cupcakes, custom-made bow ties are precious, nostalgic and expensive. Historically seen as either a sign of a wealth and erudition, the bow tie is entering a new era. Pacific Heights was there in white silk, the Marina in seersucker, and the Mission in vintage gingham with a silver mustache tacked on. Tasty Ties, a tiny new fashion startup, has come out with a line of 15 neighborhood-specific bow ties set on changing how San Francisco decorates its Adam's apple. We now have our own bow tie - "The Richmond"
It’s always interesting when businesses design neighborhood-themed products – you never know how they will choose to represent a certain part of the city. (But this is how we know the blog is making a real impact on the city – the Richmond District used to not be included in these kinds of things!
